Full participation in today´s society requires awareness of information technology and the ability to access information and communicate online. Our mandate to empower individuals to function as independently as possible in our increasingly complex world includes providing the means by which they can develop their computer skills.
Tanys Quesnel Living Learning CentreThe Tanys Quesnel Living Learning Centre (TQLLC) is a drop-in computer lab that assists adults with disabilities and seniors in our community. The centre began as a grassroots effort between the Alice Saddy Association and ATN Access Inc. Having identified major gaps in opportunities for people with disabilities to learn about technology free from the pressure of a job search, these two organizations set out to fill the void. In its early stages, the centre was organized to be just as much a social opportunity as a learning lab. Today, the TQLLC is at full capacity on a day-day basis, but remains true to the original concept of maintaining a comfortable and relaxing environment.
Beyond assisting adults with disabilities, it offers many programs for seniors in our community and offers continuing educational opportunities that make technology accessible for individuals who may be experiencing it for the very first time. Basic computer, cell phone, digital camera, and advanced computer instruction are all offered.
For adults with physical disabilities, specifically designed assistive devices such as laser mice, adjustable height computer desks, ergonomic lumbar-support chairs, joysticks and roller balls are available. And for adults with learning abilities, assistive technology software and one-on-one coaching services are available as well.
If you, or someone you know, would like to know more about the TQLLC, please consider dropping in for a visit at 101 Cherryhill Blvd. (beside the Bank of Montreal).
